While many seem to be hesitating when it comes to electrification, the Japanese manufacturer Acura has decided to move forward with a new 100% electric SUV. Acura took advantage of Monterey Car Week to present the Acura Performance EV Concept.

As its name suggests, the model is clearly geared towards performance, featuring a sleek appearance and a very muscular body with angular shapes. Unfortunately, we’re unlikely to see this model on the roads since it’s just a concept for now, but I can assure you that if it were on the road, it would definitely turn heads.

The front end has a very sharp look with slim headlights and a bumper with aggressive lines. The cabin area is narrower with a low roofline, giving it a very sporty appearance. There’s also a large air vent on the front side, which we imagine is designed to release hot air or perhaps create some form of aerodynamics. Finally, there’s the rear end, which was presented to us a few days ago, featuring a large, slim, and long light strip, adding a very modern touch to the vehicle. You can also see the backlit Acura name, which is quite attractive.

A Strong Impact

As Acura states in this press release, the goal of this new concept is to demonstrate the direction the brand will take in the coming years in terms of design for its next electric models. Of course, this aligns with what the brand mentioned a few years ago. In case you don’t remember, the brand had decided to shift its focus slightly away from luxury, placing a stronger emphasis on performance. However, Acura remains a very prestigious brand, and its vehicles are still very luxurious. What has been radically improved is, of course, the performance.

What makes the Acura Performance EV Concept so interesting is precisely the fact that it’s a concept. Since it’s not a production model, the designers and engineers had more freedom in terms of aesthetics. The model thus features 23-inch wheels and a particularly muscular body. It’s clear that some lines would need to be softened, and the model would likely come with less imposing wheels if it were to join the brand’s production lineup. However, that’s not the focus at the moment, and this allows us to see what the Japanese manufacturer is capable of in terms of design.
